One of the most widely promoted selling points of the n95 is the ability to use msn messenger on it. So you can imagine i was more than a little disappointed to find that in fact it doesn't work!
Ok, that is a slight exaggeration. It works if you are using an "@hotmail.com" account, but if like myself you use another provider to connect to msn with, you're stuck. The option for "other account" is there, but if you choose that the app seems to freeze up!
Don't dispair though! There is a solution in the form of "fring" (www.fring.com). Not only does fring let you sign into msn properly, but it also lets you sign into a number of other providers simultaneously! On top of those in the screenie below fring also supports yahoo and aim. You could call it the Trillian for the mobile.
Fring isn't perfect by any means, beyond basic connectivity and voip the features are thin on the ground. For example i can't find a way to view the contact details, or hide offline contacts. Still, it works where the official solutions fall over!
